Numerical Investigation of Surge Waves Generated by Submarine Debris Flows

چکیده

Submarine debris flows and their generated waves are common disasters in Nature that may destroy offshore infrastructure cause fatalities. As the propagation of submarine is complex, involving granular material sliding wave generation, it difficult to simulate process using conventional numerical models. In this study, a model based on smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) algorithm proposed flow predict its waves. This contains Bingham fluid for material, Newtonian ambient water, multiphase algorithm. Moreover, boundary treatment technique applied consider repulsive force from solid boundary. Underwater rigid block slide underwater sand were simulated as examples verify SPH model. The computed profiles compared with observed results recorded references. good agreement between experimental data indicates stability accuracy

Emerging insights into the dynamics of submarine debris flows

Recent experimental and theoretical work on the dynamics of submarine debris flows is summarized. Hydroplaning was first discovered in laboratory flows and later shown to likely occur in natural debris flows as well. It is a prime mechanism for explaining the extremely long runout distances observed in some natural debris flows even of overconsolidated clay materials. Moreover, the acceleration...

Numerical investigation of interaction between shock waves and dusty flows

We numerically investigate the interaction between gas-particles flows and shock waves that form during the explosive decompression of underexpanded jets. Simulations are carried out using a validated second-order accurate numerical model for multiphase flows. We quantify theoretically the expected non-equilibrium effects between the gas and the solid phase in terms of the ratio between the par...

Numerical modeling of submarine mass-movement generated waves using RANS model

In this paper a numerical model for predicting waves generated by nearshore submarine mass-movements is described. The model is based on the Reynolds averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) equations with the k2e turbulence model. The volume of fluid (VOF) method is employed to track the free surface. Numerical results obtained from the present model are validated with laboratory experiments and analytic...

A numerical study of submarine-landslide-generated waves and run-up

A mathematical model is derived to describe the generation and propagation of water waves by a submarine landslide. The model consists of a depth-integrated continuity equation and momentum equations, in which the ground movement is the forcing function. These equations include full nonlinear, but weak frequencydispersion, e¬ects. The model is capable of describing wave propagation from relativ...
